How to Negotiate Salary with HR
While
we all look for a great opportunity to grow and progress in respective fields,
job experience and salaries are two major concerns we have.
You might have noticed sometimes that your colleagues might be
making more bundles than you, despite giving equal amounts of input to the
organization. This might have happened because of lack of negotiation or
unawareness of the salary you should get.
Negotiating is always better,
as it is beneficial for both the company and the employees. It is always
acknowledged to pay employees for what they brings to the company and pay them accordingly.
How to negotiate the Salary?
Salary Negotiation
If you already
are an employee or looking for a new job where you are not offered your
expected salary, negotiating is best.
Whether you're looking for a raise or for a new job, research is the
key. One should be totally aware of the value he/she holds in the market and
hence can expect accordingly.
Have a fair idea of the number you should be offered, irrespective
of what you were making previously. You can consider refraining giving salary
ranges, because then you might need to settle for less in the range. As range
is the metaphor that indicates you're ready to negotiate, rather having a clear
idea about the
number is better.
On the other hand, it is very important to look at all the aspects the company may provide you. If
you're a new employee, lacking some certifications or experience, you might
have to settle for a smaller amount, considering you're at the learning curve.
One of the best ways to negotiate salary is by keeping calm and
understanding the perspective of others, while keeping your own points
effectively. Take things positively and start a new job on a good note, rather
being rude.
Even after
having discussion and keeping your expected number on the table, you're not
offered the salary you expect, see yourself, do you have the necessities this
company needs?, do you have enough experience?, if yes, what can company in
return provide you, a good exposure, better opportunities, and great team to
work with!
If you consider a good exposure is worth some money, you can settle
for less and be happy while working.
If you don't
feel your worth and efforts there, feel free to walk away, as some of the
employers think employee will settle for less just because they need a job,
while in doing so you will no longer enjoy working and be looking for a job,
way sooner than expected.
